Default Help Charity quilts for use with Wheelchairs

Our church group of quilters have been requested to make some lap quilt for men that are to be used with a wheelchair. Does anybody have experience with what size to make?? My friend found this post on the internet

"Depends on the size of the wheelchair and the size of the wheelchair user. Both come in all shapes and sizes. The quilts should ideally be appropriate for the individual. 36x48 sounds like a good average" http://www.thequiltshow.com/bb3/view...&t=3836#p48692

I appreciate any help or suggestion you might have. THANKS

I was told to use flannel for the backs of lap quilts so that they don't slide off of their laps so easily. HTH

Our local nursing home requests 36" square. I agree with flannel on the back

I made mine 42" x 50-52". They shouldn't be too long as they will drag the ground and get tangled in the wheels. Basically crib size, which make them really easy to make! Good for you, they will be much appreciated!

If making for people in wheel chairs I put ties or velcro on 3 corners. Staff loves that. Nh resident only has to undo one corner to lift off to use facilities and it won't fall on dirty floor.

Our guild make wheelchair quillows and used this pattern which worked really well and was especially appreciated in our Canadian winters as the fitted bottom kept the user's feet warm. It wouldn't work well for anyone wanting to put their feet down to push their chair along.
