Default Help in quilting this top

I am considering crosshatching this quilt using the ditch as my guide but don't know what thread will work better. A color that matches the border or this YLI thread I have:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/YLI-Machine-...YAAOSwbdpWbwc-
It came out a little more busy so I want to keep the quilting from showing too much. THANKS.

PS Pattern is Double Diamonds and I will crosshatching the Constitution fabric with ecru thread.

Your quilt is great! I have a son who was born on the 4th of July and I keep wanting to make him a red white and blue quilt. This would be good

I was going to suggest King Tut variegated thread "Freedom".. but your link is very similar. I think that variegated thread would be great

I'm not crazy about variegated thread. When the thread color matches the fabric color, the thread disappears; but when the thread color contrasts with the fabric color, the thread jumps out. That can actually add busyness.

For a busy quilt like this, I would probably choose a fine neutral thread. Jamie Wallen claims the Isacord "baby poop" color (#0232) disappears into almost any quilt. If not that one, I would probably go with a Bottom Line thread in silver (#623), which Bob Purcell of Superior Threads claims disappears into any fabric.

Here is a link to Jamie Wallen's site:

And here's a link to Bob Purcell and the Bottom Line silver he recommends:

Also, I would suggest reconsidering doing an all-over crosshatch (crosshatch in the borders would be nice). This is already a very geometric quilt. Straight lines of quilting are always going to deviate somewhat from the straight lines in the quilt, even if you use the ditches as a guide. Plus, curving lines in a geometric quilt add softness. If you go with an all-over meander or any kind of curving quilt design, it would add some softness and contrast to the geometric pattern of the quilt. I do think that straight lines (keyboard) or crosshatching in the borders would be very nice, as they would enhance the geometrics of the center portion of the quilt.

Edit: One of my favorite quilting patterns for this quilt would be Baptist Fan, but it is relatively difficult to do with machine quilting.

Your quilt turned out beautiful. I have found that a silver or light grey thread seems to blend in with any quilt color.

I don't see how you could go wrong with the thread you mentioned. Looks like it is made for your quilt! (Beautiful quilt, by the way, though I am pretty sure I already told you that.... Doesn't hurt to say it twice, I figure....)

Some great advice here! I'd probably use a blue/gray (lite)to blend in, a fine thread like Bottom Line or So-Fine,etc.

I just finished a multi-colored quilt and I used clear thread on top and thread that matched the bottom in the bobbin and I was very pleased with the way it turned out. And the clear thread was not hard to use.

What color is your backing? If it's the same blue as your border, I think the light grey thread would look really good. This is a beautiful quilt.

Personally, I like using variegated thread when quilting, I think it adds another dimension to the quilt.
