A batting question

A batting question
I am planning on using Hobbs 80/20 batting in my quilt. I DO NOT want the 'vintage' crinkled look so am planning on preshrinking the batting. Is it enough to just wet it, run it thru a spin cycle and then put it in the dryer or should it actually be washed using soap?

I wash my batting on gentle to get any odors out. I don't like a crinkled look or any stiffness. I do throw a dryer towel (fragrance and dye free) into the dryer. I tear my towels apart. Just a little softnes not a whole lot. Just the batting not the fabric.

Thanks for your prompt replies. Paper Princess, you gave me a real 'Duh' moment. Of course there would be info on the Hobbs site. Never even thought about looking there. Off I go to soak my batting.

My experience has been that once it is wet, then it is just one big wad of mush.
Hard to work with, and to get separated out of the mush.
I noticed that mushy-mess-situation is not mentioned on the Hobbs site.
What do others do?
In looking at the Hobbs site, only the polyesters have been shown as no shrinkage, with minimal on the wool batts.
Which brand/product are you referring to?
Perhaps it is something other than Hobbs?

When I decide I want a flat quilt. I use warm and natural. It is the easiest or most forgiving to preshrink. I can toss it into the washer give it just a bit of agitation to work the water into the batting, let it soak overnight , spin and toss is the dryer. I once sent a 12 inch X 12 square of just W&N batting through a regular cycle of washer and dryer, it came through like a champ! I would not be so inclined with a bed size batting.

PLEASE read the instructions. I don't think you should run it thru any agitation. I have used Hobbs 80/20 since when it first came out and I NEVER have pre-washed it. If I have wrinkles from being tightly folded in the package, I just put it in with the wet towels and sheets in the dryer and it comes out wrinkle free.
