I have never been happy with chemical cleaners meant for cleaning irons- I tried two different brands and they still didn't work, but the Magic Eraser did!
Magic erasers are good for so many things. Great for getting sticker residue off as well. I seem to follow my 2 1/2 yr old grandson around the house with one when he visits

I've tried Magic Eraser, and it only partially worked. My DH cleaned it with Fondue Cleaner and it was like brand new afterwards. It is alot cheaper ($1.99) and available at most grocery stores.

I always use the kitchen sink green scrubby. If all of the stuff does not come off, I add Bartender's Cleanser. I have to clarify, however, that this is only on my 'utility' iron. I never use my 'quilting' iron for anything but ironing just fabric or projects with no starch.

I tried all the tips like salt, vinegar, etc. The only thing that worked on my iron was the Magic Eraser. I don't use it when the iron's hot, however. (Tried that, didn't like the toasted fingers.)
