Default How do I make this block unit?

Is there an easy way to make this unit? I'm pretty sure I've made it before, but I don't remember if I found an easy way to do it or if I just gritted my teeth and cut the triangles. The finished measurements will be 4" x 2".

Well, I would probably paper piece it. Another way to go would be make a flying geese unit (lots of instructions out there to make 4 ata time), then snowball it with 2 flippy corners. Actually, you would take the finished flying goose & make another flying goose going in the other direction. A bit wasteful, but if you seam the 2 cutoff triangles, you will have some interesting patches for another project or for the quilt border.

I agree with PaperPrincess--I'd paper piece it.

Man, that is a small-ish block for that many pieces. Paper piecing would be the way to go.....

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to paper piece it. Pagzz, thanks for the youtube link. I have Deb Tucker's wing clipper to make flying geese and I use it all the time.

I don't do much PP...actually only two projects, which btw, are now PHD--projects half done???my question is: when you cut the pieces are you conscious of straight of grain, or just cut hither and yon.....I guess that's why I hesitate doing much...pulling paper off pieces that end up "stretched" is a nightmare in the making......

Hi, Geri -- I'm a little addicted to paper piecing and should have thought of that before I started the thread. I drew the paper piece templates and finished the units that evening. I use the freezer paper method, so I never sew through the paper and I don't have to worry about stretching the fabric. I pretty much cut my pieces hither and yon!
