    Default How Many Charm packs?

How many charm packs do you get of one fabric line? I have some, possibly many, charm packs, but I might only have one or two packs of each, three at the most. How big a quilt can I make (in general)? say D9P or tumbler or dresden? Am I the only one who doesn't know this? Is there a chart somewhere? Enlighten me, please!!

With the tumbler or dresden rulers, you generally get 2 pieces per charm square.

I usually get two of each when I buy them. They add variety to my stash and I make alot of scrappys using 5" squares. I found that I need two charms to make pinwheel blocks and can make them work for other blocks too.

If you mean how many charm packs you could buy from one fabric line, I have no idea. Moda charms are 42 squares per package. so if you made them into tumblers (I did that with my home made template) you would get 42 tumblers of course. it would take so many across and so many down to make what ever size quilt you want. Figure it that way. to help in the size, you can always cut some solid fabric up into squares and add those. Here is one I made from some Moda charms and Wal-Mart charms. plus a few jelly roll strips.

If you are interesting in disappearing 9P you could add some coordinating solids or tone-on-tone to make the nine patches and you'd have them go a lot further. Or use the charm as the center of a star block such as evening star or Ohio star, with the points in other coordinating fabrics. So if you had 40 charms, you'd end up with 40 star blocks.

I usually buy two charm packs, which will make a nice size lap quilt.

Thanks guys! I see a charm pack I love, have no idea what I might do with it at that moment, and then can't decide how many to buy. I'm always afraid when I do decide what I want to do with it, I won't have enough and won't be able to find more fabric from that line! Can you tell I'm a fabriholic???

I was just browsing over there the other day and remembered reading about how many charms you would need.
