I have an applique block I was working on today. When I sat down with it to do some of the embroidery, I noticed a small tear in the fabric right along the edge of some of the applique. Seems like the thread used to attach the applique piece cut into the background fabric a little. It's small, probably a little more than 1/8" but I don't really know how to fix it. This is going to be a wall hanging so won't be used or washed much at all. At first I thought about trying to stitch it closed with really small stitches, but I'm afraid it may do more harm than good. Would a small piece of fusible on fabric ironed to the back over the tear be enough to keep it from fraying through just the little bit of handling, and one wash, that the quilt will get?

I really don't know how it happened, maybe just a fluke weak spot in the fabric. :?:

What about a dab of fray check?

Can you move the applique over a little to cover or add another one over the top?

a little fusable will probably work fine,i've mended a couple that way, also a little dab of fabric glue on the front will dry clear and keep any fraying from happening. but i think the fusable (heat and bond lite is what i use) will be your best option

I keep a roll of the 1/4 inch fusbile on hand for those kind of repairs. I wash all of the prayer quilts for church & sometimes have a seam fray. I tear of a piece slightly long than the frayed area, take a pin & gently lift the fabric & slide the fusible tape under the fabric & press. According to how long it is I sometimes take a few stitches in the ditch catching both fabrics. Hope this helps. When I have tried the liquids they seem to leave a shiny spot...maybe I use too much.
