I'm working on a miniature quilt for a swap. The colored bars are about 2 1/4 inches and the black sashing is 1 1/2 inches.

I'm very much a novice quilter, and am trying to figure out what to do in terms of quilting. Any suggestions are welcome.

There will be 2 more black borders and one vertical side with teal drops still to attach.

Cheers, K

I love your very unique pattern. I don't know what I would do for quilting, maybe just an all over meander?

I would quilt in the ditch around all the dark strips. Then.....if I wanted to add decorative quilting I would do a serpentine line of quilting in the center of the dark strips. I did some quilting in a sashing recently and used SCO-274 from The Stencil Co (www.quiltingstencils.com) I quilted this with the walking foot. Had to adjust the design so it would go around the corners but it worked great. The stencil has three wave lines so you can use two lines on the smaller and three lines on the larger. I had to go slow in order to keep the curves even but it worked out very well. Quilting this way only in the dark lines will give it some character. I am sure they (The Stencil Co folks) would tell you the distance between each line so you can get the size that would fit into the space.

I think this would look great in an allover pattern.

Depending on your skill/confidence level I would do some sort of continuous curved line style quilting on the colorful strips. Almost like a curved braid. I liked the idea of variegated thread.

You can choose almost any other design, though I prefer something with curvy motion on the black. Choice of thread color yours.

I love it.

What a beautiful quilt - I especially love the colored blocks in the sashing! Nice touch! Either SITD or wavy through the sashings. Or, overlapping blocks of varying sizes all over the top. I have seen that on other quilts and it looks very lovely!

I love your colours paired with the black. I would quilt a boarder style continuous line pattern like a nice big feather or a celtic braid in the coloured part and then a smaller matching design in the black area. You can find stencils and mark it to make it easy.
