Which machine would you buy if applique was what you did most. Needle turn by machine or raw edge????

Which is your favorite and why??

When I bought my Bernina 1230 about 20 years ago, I bought it because of the blanket stitch it did, as well as feather stitch and other decorative stitches. It does a beautiful job of stitching. That isn't a model available unless you would be lucky enough to find a used one for sale, but the Bernina's of today also do a great job appliqueing.

I've never heard of needle turn by machine. I do needle turn by hand! I love my Bernina's stitching for applique, but have discovered I like hand applique too.

It's fake needle turn----Most people use the blind stitch to attach the applique which has been prepared as if you are doing hand applique,

An 830, which is out of most people's budget. Though, pretty much people are going to recommend the machine they own;>

I love my Viking Sapphire 870 for applique because of the pivot feature that it has.

I have a few machines and love them all. My favorite for turning a tight radius, pivoting, as one does for a blind-hem appliqué is the Bernina 440 with 5.5mm (narrower) feed dogs. It also helps that the foot control is so precise, stops where you stop, no extra stitches. My older Bernina 930 is good for this except that it lacks needle up/down by heel tap. Some 930's have that, mine was an earlier issue of that model. I think the ideal features for that are narrower feed dogs, knee lift, and either needle up/down by heel tap or programmable needle down. All that said, much prefer hand appliqué :)
