A good friend of mine got this book for me as we have enjoyed listening to her stories while travelling. It is definitely on my bucket list. Geri B, I'm not sure you are being entirely fair to her. My books says that she has designed and pieced many of the blocks - but does acknowledge that she is "grateful to the wonderful quilting friends who contributed blocks to several of the Loyal Union Sampler quilts featured in the book." Anyway, I have found the Elm Creek series delightful and I have done a lot of quilting listening to her books (free from the public library) and travelling down the road.

As a participant in making the blocks for the LUS book and coordinator of Jennifer Chiaverini's Sylvia's Bridal Sampler BOW group, I have to say that is simply incorrect. Jennifer designed the quilt. There were many of us involved in making blocks in different colorways for the various quilts that appear in the book. With as many books as she writes and her comprehensive research for each one it would be impossible for her to make that many quilts under the constraints of publishing deadlines. I would also like to mention that everyone who made a block or blocks was given credit in the books. I considered it an honor to be part of the project.

Each of these quilts can be used as a skill builder for quilters of all skill levels. I was a new quilter when I joined the SBS BOW group and improved my skills as I completed each block. If you are a new quilter I would suggest starting with the SBS quilt.

Anyone who wants to join us for the SBS BOW can PM me and I'll forward a link to the group.

Here's my SBS, completed in 2010:

Remember the little boy from home alone when he went screaming all around flaying his arms. That was me when I looked at the cover of the book a moment ago. I love the Elm Creek stories but between the bridal quilt and then farmer's wife quilt I am working on, I just cannot face another sampler quilt for a while. Love them but..... not for a few years will this one get on my list. Go for it gals and post your photos for me to admire.

Thanks all for your replies ! I am following a BOW on Yahoo for both The Loyal Union and Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilts and just thought I would see if there are any followers here !!
I have added a link to my Sylvia and Dear Jane Quilts and a photo of my Loyal Union blocks below the links ---- ( I hope that they work)
So as you can see I love doing these quilts with smaller blocks - I have done all the blocks - triangles and corners on my Dear Jane and the blocks are sashed together - I just have a few more triangles to join together -- and attach them to the main body of the quilt - and then I have a friend who is going to baste it on her LA for me. I then hope to hand quilt it.
I have done my DJ in Christmas fabrics and have so much left in my stash - I am also doing my SBS in the same fabrics. My LUS is in ivories, creams, beiges and browns and I am quite pleased with how they look. Would love your opinions !!

DottyD - it is looking fantastic! You are inspiring me to take it off my bucket list and start working on it.
