I have a question about those charm packs, jelly rolls, etc.

Recently was given a 'super' charm pack (140 squares)This was the first charms I had had and was surprised that
none measured 5 inches. Most are 5 1/4 X 4 7/8. They are beautiful Hawaiian print. Now to find a pattern after I get them all cut to the same size

I don't think you would have to worry about that. I make 1/8 inch seams many times. The smaller the piece, the smaller I make my seam. Eighth inch would be the smallest, but sometimes mine are smaller if I'm sewing bias-wise across a seam. Then I just make sure I have a few threads of each side in the seam allowance. Scrap quilts sometimes have these kinds of seams.

I recently watched a video and they said very specifically that you measure from the tips of the pinked edges, not to trim and not to measure from the valleys of the pinks.

I don't like the pinked edges because when you sew a 1/4 inch seam there isn't much left. Also measure them because sizes vary. My last jelly roll I used was only about 2 1/4 inches wide. It didn't make any difference on the pattern I used but it does on some patterns. If I had been using another color jelly roll It could have been a nightmare.
