Default Do you prewash jelly rolls and charm packs?

I think this has been discussed before but I'd like to know if any of you have ever prewash jelly rolls and charm packs? And if so, what is the result? I'm worried about colour fastness of the jelly rolls and charm packs.

Thank you
gml

I have washed a jelly roll in mesh laundry bags because I intended to use it for a jelly roll race quilt where the exact measurements don't really matter. I've also washed a charm pack from which I cut appliques, so any shrinkage didn't matter on that front either. Don't know if I'd wash if I needed the exact 2.5" or 5" for a specific pattern. The packaging does say not to wash.

I've never washed them. Will use a color catcher on first wash instead.

I pre wash by swishing them in the sink with a few drops of washing machine soap and warm water. Then I spin them in a salad spinner. I usually wash like colors together. Don't have much problem with colors, but sometimes the fabric really shrinks!

What is a colour catcher? Do you have any particular brand in mind?

Yes i'm also afraid of shrinkage. If they shrink, what can we use them for? There was a suggestion earlier to cut out applique pieces and to use for jelly race quilt. Besides these, what can we do with shrunk jelly rolls and charm packs?

No I do not pre-wash any fabric that I use for piecing. I have washed backing that I fear might run and I always use Color Catchers!
