Great hint because I always forget which side to thread from since I don't use the Featherweight that much.

What else???!!

It would be fun to be able to have a list of helpers.
I just copied all that everyone has posted in this thread and I'm saving as "Catchy Sewing Terms" on my computer, and will add to it whenever someone else has quick tip for us to remember to use to identify something when we are sewing quilting. Perhaps if every one does this and adds to their page, before long we can have a good list and post a thread just for them. Having a catchy phrase or reminder of a word is how I always studied for my spelling test or any test growing up and taught my two kids- both always made A's in spelling going through school - my son had a 100 yearly average grades 1-3. This worked for their vocabulary tests too. When I taught (I am a retired teacher and I taught 1st grade my last 18 years)-I used this with my first grade students and those who used it did well. I know this isn't school and we aren't being tested, but just giving examples.

Righty Tighty -- Lefty Loosey
When tightening or loosening screws to change needle, hoops, change bobbin tension, etc.
It means if you turn your screwdriver to the right (clockwise) you will tighten whatever you are working on and Vice Versa.

Look at the thread guides. The last thread guide is on the side you put your thread into the needle. If that last thread guide is on the left, thread left to right, etc.

This is about which side of the batting goes to the quilt top and which goes to the bottom. I'm not sure it really makes any difference, but yield to those who do. froggyintexas

And when you are getting ready to go over the bumps, if your foot has that little white button on the side, push it and it helps you go over the bumps easier.

I am not sure that's true. Usually, the bumpy side goes down, so that your stitches on the quilt top are going in the same direction as the needle-punching. Hence the expression, "pimples down, dimples up,"'which isn't very appealing but does reflect the opposite.

hugs,
