I just saw the coolest show!

It was Sewing with Nancy and she had Georgie Melot on the show. They were working with sergers. The show was Ready Set Serge. They made eye glass cases, makeup bags and Christmas stockings! All were made in minutes.
If I were to make some of these projects can I use my zig zag feature on my machine instead of serging it. (don't own a serger) I guess I could just use a regular straight stitch.
Ya'll the sew was awesome!

I have one of the Singer Tiny Serger and it does a great job on projects like this. I think it was about $50 brand new. I don't know if they are made anymore. It is a three thread serger and goes slow but does an excellent serge stitch.

It's amazing what you can do with a serger. When we go to the Puyallup Sew Expo, we usually go to one of the serger seminars. I never knew my serger could do so much. Where do they come up with this stuff? I am always in awe of other people's creativity.

I saw both episodes of this Sewing with Nancy shows. Very quick and easy projects. I also saw a Knit and Crochet Today show, where they used a serger to make a lace scarf. No fabric involved, just serging thread. It looked really neat and went very quickly, also.

I have a Bernina serger, which my mother gave me and has not yet delivered. So, I haven't seen or attempted to use it, yet. Sheesh! They only live 2,500 miles from me. You'd think they could deliver it already! It's been over a year now!
Oh well, maybe someday I'll get to see my serger. It's 6 or 7 years old now and was only used for one class. My mom just never got the hang of it. And now with her Alzheimer's, she'll never get to use it. I'll probably inherit her Bernina sewing machine someday, too!

I think you are talking about serger crochet. It is done with crochet thread and you over cast the edge, then you catch the edge on the next row, etc. The you have the edge you want. I have done this on towels and it looks great. I also have found if you take a piece of twill tape the color of the towel/thread and do the seger crochet on that, you can take it off when you wash the towel and it looks better longer.
If you go to Baby Lock USA, they have a baby bonnet made out of serger crochet.

I saw the same show, it was great. Since I have a serger that hasn't been used much since quilting all the time. So i made the potholder, it was so fast and fun. The only thing is not thick enough so next one i add 2 layers of heat resistant fleece, now it works great. Great fast gifts for scraps.
