I would like to end up with a 9 inch block, in a pinwheel and a nine patch or even just a 4. I thought I had seen a formula, thought I marked it, but do you think I can find it, no. Spent last night looking. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, appreciate it.

A nine patch is 3 across and 3 down, so to make one that will finish at 9" block, you would need to cut 9 3.5" squares.

Thanks for the information, the nine patch I figured out. And it is the same as your calculation. Now I have to think about the pinwheel. Hey, I have to say, I am just back from the dentist office had two teeth pulled, quilting kept my mind occupied, I figured the nine patch out while laying in the chair, were I there longer I might have given the pinwheel a go in my head. Who would have thought quilting would be good even sitting in the dentists chair. Something like calgon take me away....
