I bought an old sunbeam at Goodwill for $7 and it works great - gets real hot. Goodwill even gave me 7 days to be sure it worked or I could bring it back. I have 2 others, but nothing too expensive!

hetty, are you saying you iron your sheets? Your a good woman. My family does not know that is a possibility. I remember being a young bride with lots of spare time and ironing the sheets to have something to busy my hands. That disappeared when I had my beautiful daughter.
mammy6, Seems the less I pay for an iron the longer it lasts.

I bought a Euro Steam Evolution at the quilt show that I really like. It's an internal boiler iron so the plate doesn't get too hot. I can iron silk and poly with it. It puts out loads of steam. But it's still not the perfect iron. I also have an early 60s era GE dry iron I bought "new in box" on ebay. I have them both on my ironing center.

For those of you that keep knocking your iron to the floor, maybe you need to get a more stable ironing board. I haven't knocked an iron off the board for at least 8 years since I bought one of the wider boards.

I have an iron I got when I married 48 years ago. It gets really hot & doesn't cycle off like the new ones. I have it plugged into an outlet that goes off when the light switch does...no more waiting for the iron to reheat!! (Obviously I didn't do a lot of ironing the first 45 years before I took up quilting:-)

I have a Black & Decker that I bought at Wal-Mart for less than $25 over 5yrs. ago(maybe longer - I'm having a senior moment). It has auto shut-off & self-cleaning mode it gets plenty hot & hasn't leaked yet!

I got mine at Wal Mart. Just a plain jane iron but it works.

I has problems with my Rowenta irons spitting water. I then read the instruction manual and realized that I was supposed to use tap water. I had been using distilled water. Once I changed I have never had a problem. I have used Rowenta irons for quite awhile. I now use a Black & Decker Digital Advantage. It was rated high in Consumer Reports. It works like a charm. I hate to admit this but I really, really like to iron !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
