Like all the other responders, I just use as is.
I think you'd have a colossal mess washing them.

I'll go along with everyone else. Use them as they are, no washing needed.

Ok, then as a follow up to my original post: How do you treat them after you've completed your quilt/wallhanging, etc? Are there any surprises the first time you wash them, or any care instructions you should give the recipient on how to take care of your beautifully-crafted, painstakingly-made gift? :D

I've never had any problems with them after. I use a shout color catcher or two in the wash, warm water, and so far, no problems with bleeding or weird shrinkage.

no pre wash.
i love them.
use them for a lot of quick projects.
