I am thinking about buying a Juki sewing machine mostly for FMQ. I have read about the TL98Q and the J2010Q. I would appreciate opinions on which machine would be the best one to buy for a new FM quilter.

    Thank you,

I have the 2010 and love it, it needs to be cleaned and oiled very often but I finally got a mini Pini frame and am quilting with that. I have heard good things about both. I like the thread cutter, and also the rabbit and the turtle speed control on my 2010. Both run about the same price on line,

the 98 isn't being made any longer so the upside to the 98 would be the discounted price.

i got a 98Q for $450 new because the 2010 just came out.

if you can't get a great bargain on the 98 then i would go for the 2010 with the additional features that come with a newer model.

FMQing was the reason I bought my Juki a few years ago. I started with her on my dining room table and she worked great there. Two years ago I got a got a frame and last year I added a stitch regulator and it works great for me. She loves lots of oil and I clean her regularly and she works like a dream.

I got my Juki 2010 right after Christmas and I LOVE it. I couldn't believe the difference in my FMQ on the Juki VS my Pfaff 7570. It proved to me that it's not always user error in FMQ! Having the right machine for job is everything. For Valentines day I got a Grace GMQ Pro frame for it but has yet to be assembled. Maybe some day, LOL

I keep my juki set up just for FMQ. I highly recommend it!

The only thing that I have been upset with, is the stitch regulator that was for the Juki 98 doesn't work with the Juki 2010. I bought the frame and the first one from a member and had to buy another one from the company, but it was only $150. Why do they change the settings on those things. Crazy. I can still sell the Juki 98 one.
