    Default king sized quilt HELP

Hi, I have made my topper according to directions-- (I thought) but it is only 71 X 81 inches. That isn't big enough for a king quilt, is it? Should I just add another strip or two? How many inches does finishing the quilt add to it--llike the binding, etc? Thanks

A king mattress is 76 x 80 so you will have to add to it. How much will depend on how much drop you want & if it is to go over the pillows. figure out what you want the drop to be. You can add extra blocks & then do 2-3 borders to increase the size. I would add at least an inner & outer border.

Binding does not add to the size of the quilt, it simply encloses the side edges. You will need to determine how much overhang you want/need. My Frank Lloyd Wright quilt finished at 104" X 108". Fit/draped beautifully. After you determine the size you want you would need to decide if you want to add more blocks or just a combination of borders.

You really need to measure the mattress and determine how long you want the edges to hang. There are such a variety of the thickness of mattress now a days. King size batting is 120"x120". You can add additional blocks or add a few wider borders.

Once you determine how much drop you need on the sides, add another inch or so to allow for shrinkage.

Not knowing what your quilt pattern is and if you have any left over fabric, perhaps you can add another row to the width and length? When I made my king size quilt I didn't want to continue the pattern over the sides, so I put in a 2 1/2" wide sash all around the quilt, then I added a wide border and a couple more sashing strips. It had about a 12" drop on the sides. I also made corner blocks with applique log cabins and pine trees to keep with the theme.
