I was all set up to quilt on my 'new-to-me' Innova, when I hadn't moved the crosshatch ruler attachment out of the way. So when I advanced the quilt, rip - right across the take-up leader. Since I float my quilt tops, is there any reason I couldn't re-purpose the leader for the quilt top? I realize it's not as long as the take-up leader, but it is 19" long - which, according to measurements, would reach out enough to attach the backing to? I'd really hate to buy another set of leaders just for the take-up leader.

Yes there is no problem doing this as I have done this....I also float my quilt tops. just save the leader and make another one sometime.

I made myself 3 sets of leaders from crib to double to king...so yes, you can even make your own.

It means that while you attach the backing to the backing leader and then to take up leader, the batting and top just get laid up on backing. You then anchor the bat/top at the top/sides just like you would if it was attached at the bottom to the top roller/leader.

I also almost always float the top, although was top by a couple of national level teachers to reconsider that if quilting for show or an especially large quilt because attaching the top to the top roller/leader does allow you to center it and anchor as you quilt so it shifts less.

I make my leaders out of pillow ticking, it has the straight lines for positioning and does not stretch too much, and usually pretty evenly. I also float my batting and top.
