Which do you prefer for OBw's. When sewing together, do you sew from the inside to the outside edge, or from the outside to the center. My books tell me two different things and I'm not sure which works better

That's why i haven't done anything like that.I just can't seem to get it just right.Connie in CO

I stitch from the outside in until it comes to putting together the two 'halves'. Then I carefully mark the center point of each half and start stitching to the outside. Then go back and do the same thing for the other side of the "half". I found that my center meets perfectly when I break it in two.

BTW, I wasn't doing OBW's but 30 - 6" compasses, but the assembly should be the same.

I like the look of the hexagons better. I sewed mine from the outsite in, but I don't think it matters as long as you are careful of the bias edge. The OBW book did say to make sure that you leave the straight grain of the fabric on the oustide edge of the block. I just completed a small practice one and dithered about turning the triangles to get the prettiest hexagons. Some of them wound up with bias edges on the outside. After playing with the placement for a while, some of them stretched. In my next one, I'm going to follow the advice in the book (what a concept) and keep the straight edges on the outside. There's so much going on in OBWs that it's difficult to pick out a specific hexagon, so trying to make them pretty is sort of wasted.
