Here's another Tennessean checking in. Welcome. You will find this board a wonderful place to get ideas from. The idea of sashing each block to make them the same size is a good one. You can use a piano key border of various shades of red, green, and gold to enlarge the size of the quilt. But, hey, a wall hanging would be fine to make just for the sentimental value of the girls. By the way, your use of the English language is great (from a former English teacher of 38 years). Have fun and let us see more photos as you progress.

Welcome from Idaho! Tough one. The thought of additional colors? I would audition some soft or muted shades? See what is pleasing to you. That is definately not MY strongsuit! But you are right. This is a very helpful board and if you follow along you will learn a lot!

Hello from Minnesota. Not sure what I would do with these blocks, but you have gotten some great ideas here. Will be looking forward to see what you have done with them.

Hi and welcome from the state of Massachusetts! Great ideas here, can't wait to see which one you choose or go off on your own and borrow some of the suggestions.
