I am going to attempt a Tumbling Block quilt. I have a 60 degree diamond ruler that I picked up at Joann Fabric. I will be piecing the diamonds together by machine. In the past I have dabbled in hexagons, and found that inset / y-seams are very tricky, so I put it aside. I don't want the same thing to happen with this project, so any and all tips are very welcome. :) Thanks in advance.

Mark your 'corners' 1/4 inch in from edge, only sew first 2 diamonds to this dot & back stitch 1-2 stitches, 3rd diamond start at the dot, sew one side, start at the dot again. The dots are where the 3 diamonds come together. After you do a few they become really easy. You will get so that you won't even have to back stitch. It only helps newbies from getting frustrated when the stitching comes out....

Good luck & keep us posted.

See if this helps: You Tube video by Kaye Woods

if the link doesn't work go to You Tube and search for:
Y-seams. They're easy with Kaye Wood's techniques!

There are other postigs on You Tube for Y-Seams - helps because you can see what they are doing if its a good video.

I mark my pieces with 1/4" lines along each edge and start and stop at the intersections. I actually just sewed a bunch by hand for a wall hanging. That seemed to be easier.

WOW. This is wonderful. I have a project I'm working on that will require a Y seam and I've been stalling on it till I could figure out the best way to do it. This will by far be the best way! Thanks.
