Default Making the sandwich with a striped backing - help please

I am trying to sandwich my quilt and I am going crazy trying to get it straight. I am using a striped backing and I can't seem to get the stripes straight. Any advise would be very helpful.

No one uses stripe fabric on the backs of their quilts?

I always try not to use stripe, but I can barely get anything straight.

I did ONCE, but learned a lesson. The only way I use stripes is to cut the fabric into large squares or planks and change the direction of the stripe like pavers are? And I create a pattern of stripes.

Stripes give you away every time. I avoid them as they show up my wonky sewing.

My guess is it is not printed straight. Follow the salvage & see if stpipes follow it also.

Maybe you could put the stripes on diagonally. I never use stripes just because it is too hard to keep them straight. Good luck with your quilt.

have sewn all my life, and I am amazed at reading the replies, how many chickens are out there.
First-- you must see if the stripes are straight, I personally have no problems with stripes, but if I
would use it for a backing, i would make the stripes go vertical, and make your seam horizontal-
cut off the selvage (machined edge) pin every stripe- and sew it together, no sweat!
you have a problem, email me here, ill help you out the best way i can!
    good luck

It can be done ... you need one heck of a lot of patience if you are going to get it squared up and straight as can be!

As some others pointed out ... it's a tricky one!

I have played with it all I can stand...I think it is close, but I am sure not 100%. If the batting didn't stick so well it would be easier to adjust. I pinned it all along one side (stripes are vertical)...measured and then checked the back...working all the way along the side...but still off a little on the opposite side - must not have had it perfectly smooth all over. It is pinned now and have started my SID...I do have thread that matches the backing color so it won't show too much(I hope).

Next time if I can avoid stripes I will - or do it on an angle. Thanks for the input. Challenges are just opportunities to learn!
