Question Metallics faded after first wash.

Most of the metallic fabrics faded after the first wash. They are all good quality quilt cottons so I think it is the laundry soap that caused this. I have more metallics in my stash but do not think I will buy these ever again. I was thinking maybe adding some gold embroidery thread to the faded areas.
I did try looking for soft soap flakes but they stopped selling these years ago.

woolite and dreft is still available- cold water is a must- most fabrics fade (soften) with laundering-not just metallics. I've had pretty good luck with the metallics I've used.

I've had metallics that pretty much disappeared too
... and then others that have continued to shine brightly after I pre-wash in hot water and hot dryer!

Another reason to do a pre-wash, so that I know what might happen, before I do all the work of making a quilt. Then I can make the decision whether I use it in that project, keep for another ... or not at all!

You can find Orvus paste at a place that sells farm supplies. It's used to wash horses, but it's also a very gentle soap that is sold at a much higher price to quilters for washing quilts.

I also love Orvus. Used it for years on my cross stitch projects. Woolite is a harsh detergent. You can find Orvus at Tractor Supply Stores and the large container really lasts a very long time. Note that it gets to be liquid in warm weather and more like a paste when cooler. Doesn't hurt the product at all though.
