Default My 2014 commitment

If I post I have to do it, right. About 8 years ago I tried my first Log Cabin quilt, what a mess. It did go to the landfill. Since then I have tried to do Log Cabin Blocks. My sewing has been off. Bitt my tongue, didn't help. My colors really clashed. Can anyone recommend a good book or web site for a pattern. I'll need to know how much fabric to buy, etc.

We've made two using Eleanor Burns' Log Cabin in a Day. Not as intricate as some, but easy to do and picking colors was straightforward. If you think you are going to have trouble, I would start there.

I agree, Eleanor Burns method is a fool proof, if you follow her directions.

Judy Martin's log cabin instructions are excellent. In my opinion she's the queen of log cabins, with at least 3 log cabin books in print. I do not like EB's method, although many people do.

Try a paper piece pattern. The extra step of using a foundation pays off in accuracy....course, you gotta like paper piecing!

I just made my first log cabin - a Christmas wreath wall hanging using the Eleanor Burns method. I had to read the instructions about 8 times before they made sense, but once it clicked it was really very, very easy. Haven't tried Judy Martin's method yet do have one of her books, so will be trying her method out in some fashion this winter.

I made mine with Eleanor Burns method and it came out great and was no hassle.

I love Judy Martin's Log Cabin Books, but some of her patterns are intricate. They have many pieces and are difficult to keep track of. If you had a problem before, maybe you should start with an easier pattern and graduate to a Judy Martin pattern. Good luck.
