I am not sure of the name but it is beautiful. Just saw the post about the Mariner's star and that was the first thought that came into my head.

Looks like a Judy Neimeyer (spelling) she has patterns that look like that

It is definately paper pieced and reminds me of Judy in the outer areas as others have said.

Here is a free download to one really close, and with a little modification from another post here, and watching the color placement, you could do it: http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/...al-nebula.html

Nice quilt. Thanks for posting it. I've saved it for a future project. I like the pp'd inserts just like this one has.
