So I figured I'd try to make one of these cute bags that many of you have made. I ordered the pattern and am finding it very confusing. I admit I have little experience with sewing anything except quilts and usually only use simple patterns.
I have cut the first few pieces until I got to the step to cut the inside pockets. The instructions says cut 11" X WOF (width of fabric). I am completely thrown here. Is it talking about the width of the purse or the 45" width of fabric? Hope I am making sense. It has the same instructions for cutting handle and button loops. The others are clear cut 7"X 17", ect.
I am beginning to regret even thinking about making this purse. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I cut mine, then when I sew the sides together I just trim the excess. You could also match the pockets with the ends of the purse, then leave a little "extra" open for pockets in the event there is an extra bulky item that would go in (like a small umbrella).

Making the first one is always a little slow, but I promise you the light bulbs will go off for you all along the way. I had to reference the printed instructions many times before I would cut each piece. WOF means just that, WOF (width of fabric). The pocket element will actually be wider than the purse body piece but you will trim the ends once you sew the pocket pieces to the lining. Post any questions you have, there are lots of folks who have made them and Im sure they would love to help.

WOF always means width of fabric which is mostly 44/45"

I am going to attempt my FIRST bow tuck so I am bookmarking this thread and reading every word of advise. I, like you, don't do any other kind of sewing except quilt piecing, but REALLY want to make these!! Please post a pic when your done. I have bookmarked every bow tuck purse shown here!

I've started to sew one side of the two lining pieces together, then sew the pocket on in one long piece. Makes it easier for me to align the pocket edges on the other side of the lining pieces, and have one good sized corner pocket.

Ok...I have it almost done! I'm not good at top-stitching and the little bow ties I fixed look pretty shabby, so I haven't sewn them on yet. I am going to work on making some prettier ones tomorrow. All in all though, I'm happy with the bag so far. I've also got to find a button for it.
I did find I had to wing it on much of the bag, as the pattern had several errors. The instructional pictures from this site did help tremendously too!
I'll have pictures when I finish :)
