Im new to quilting and want to make dh's parents a lap quilt for christmas. Nothing too fancy so I can get it done in time. They like nature/hunting/lab dogs. I was looking for a panel with maybe ducks or something and then a bunch of blocks around it with a border. My questions are how big is a typical lap quilt? Where can I find a panel like that and also what blocks would like nice around it?

thanks in advance
Jennifer

I'd keep looking until I found something I would enjoy doing ...other wise you might not get it done ....speaking about trial and error on my part...some colors I just have a hard time working with....Good luck and let us know what you choose to do or a photo... :D

The nice thing about the pattern you posted is it gives the directions for binding and everything. Would be good for a beginner.

I agree, this is a WONDERFUL site both for the neubie and the old pro alike!! She gives such great directions and like I said in my earlier post, scroll down the left side of her web page for GREAT patterns. I have made, I think, ALL of them but his easy Eye Spy pattern is my all time FAVORITE.

Enjoy!!
