Good Morning To My Quilting Friends,

I received a request from a co-worker who is having a baby boy in June. I have already made her a crib quilt to give to her at her baby shower, but she has also mentioned that she wants what she calls a personal quilt for him. Is this what they call a binkee? I believe it measures about
15" x 16". I also heard that they have ribbons on them with different textures for the baby to feel of.

Are there kits sold for these?

    Thanks for you help,
    Vanessa

I've always known pacifiers to be binkies.
I did a Google search and came up with pacifiers too.

I have heard of some kids calling them "silkies" because of the "silky" binding on it.
Other than that, I can't help you, but to say....
If I were to make a personal quilt/blanket for a baby, if I were to put ribbon or something on it, I would make sure it was sewn down really well. Wouldn't want it coming up and baby sucking/choking on it.

Maybe ask your friend to write down EXACTLY what she is wanting. Might help you to decide how/what to make.

I made a tag blanket that sounds simular to what you are saying. It is different textured ribbons and piping made to hang off the side so the baby can gum it and have it with him always. If you want more info just ask me I can tell you how I made mine.

I made a "taggie" for my little grandson. It is only about 6 or 7 inches square but with lots (and I mean lots) of tags from clothing and different textures to ribbon I sewed around the perimiter of the square. He loves to hold it and "explore" (which means chew on all of it) the different textures. It came out well and he likes it which was the main objective. I included a Sesame Street tag, a Big Dog tag, and McDonald's kids clothes tag and a few from his grandfather's clothes (that he hasn't even missed LOL). Then (you already knew this part), I went to Joann's and bought little pieces of bright colored ribbons--satin, grosgrain (tried to vary the textures). Maybe, that is what your friend meant?????

If it's a taggie blanket, I found one for my grandson at potterybarnkids.com a couple of years ago. He loved his. It was only about 12" x 12" and my dil would put it by his face when he started fussing and he'd quiet pretty quickly. He never would take a pacifier, so we were glad it soothed him. It was a soft, minkie kind of fabric with the ribbon tags all around.

I also made one with ribbons. it was a 6" square of minki, different texture of ribbons sewn in all around. However, I don't think thats what your friend means. Why don't you just ask her?
