Hi,
I need to sew a strip of 2 1/2 inch squares to the top of a rectangular piece of fabric, then repeat all the way around, like a border. What is my best bet? strips on the top or strips on the bottom? My instincts are telling me strips on the top but wanted to check here to avoid possible 'rip-outs'. I'll use Best Press prior as well.
I hope to dive into this as soon as I get home from work tonight.
Thanks in advance,
lots2do

Strips on the top. Also, depending on how the block is supposed to look, I would sew on top and bottom and than sides OR sides and than top and bottom.

if you need to 'ease' the strip in the strip that is (long) goes on the bottom so the feed dogs help to ease it in, just like doing any border. i hope this helps, kind of unclear what you are actually asking...

I agree with both, but make sure you measure the middle with a tape measure and do not make your strips too long, if they are your quilt will ripple and not hang straight.

I personally prefer to put the more pieced side on top so I can see what the seam allowances are doing and provide any needed guidance to get seam allowances to lie the way I want them to.

I would have the little squares on top, because having the little squares on the top will help you keep them lined up right.

If you pin & find one larger than the other.... always put the fullest piece on the bottom next to the feed dogs....and you can ease your pieces together perfectly.
