Have you considered asking her to get you the fabric in the shade of green that she prefers?

Agree...maybe a softer blue.

I agree and couldn't have said it any better.

I kind of agree with this.... also, if she is okay with blue, why not show her the two pictures and ask which one she prefers? I like the first one, but she may prefer the second.

I like both, but I think it depends on the age of the recipient. If she is younger, she would probably like the first one better, it is more modern and highlights the hankies. If she is older, the second one has more of a traditional feel, and the hankies blend in well.

I think the colors should be softer to fit in with the hankies.

Love the green thin border all around. Very nice. Like the floral in the second picture, I think it's in keeping with the embroidery/print on the hankies. However, I think both borders are too dark or bold for the delicate butterflies. They get lost. I think a lighter, delicate print would be lovely. JMHO. Hope to see it when it's pieced.

do you have something that is more neutral than the Blue? It's too contrasty/harsh for the rest of the quilt. If you had something similar in tone and color to the brown dotty fabric that you've used as the inner border on the second pic, but reads as a solid/near solid, you could use that for the border, it would provide enough contrast to frame the inner portion of the quilt and highlight the butterfly hankies without being jarring.
