I marked some pieces for applique (a number coordinating with sections of the pattern) less than two weeks ago. I ironed them yesterday. Sure, the dark ink came off, but left a white number on the fabrics! I don't know if it will come out in the wash, I haven't sewn the quilt yet. I had already pre-washed the fabric.

Luckily, I marked the pieces on the back, and it doesn't appear to have gone through the entire fabric.

wow, that's a bit scary... could you do a test piece and wash it to see if it comes out then?

OK, I just washed it with Dawn, rinsed and ironed it dry. The white number is still there! This is on a kind of maroon colored cloth. I'm sure the mark is on the light fabrics too, just not as obvious.

    I don't think I'll use it anymore.

Same thing happened to me. It didnt dawn on me that that it was bleached. I thought it was just white. No wonder the white line wouldnt go away! Very disappointed too!

I have found that same thing on dark fabrics. Luckily it was just a small craft project that didn't matter. They are handy in the sewing room but you do have to watch what you do with them.

I thought I noticed something when I ironed it one time but didn't think too much of it since it was on the back. I figured it would go away when it was washed. Don't think I will be using them any more.

I use the Sewline marker. It is chalk and I don't anticipate a problem with it. Used it for the first time to mark a baby quilt I am working on. I tested it on scraps of the same fabric, and the marks came right out. They don't last quite as long as some markers, but do show up on most fabrics. I think it is treated chalk, since the marks last longer than chalk

Be careful with the Sewline. I used green, and it has
not come out after two washings and soaking in
Shout. Use only the white and, I believe, there is a
gray. Stay away from the green.
