New Project: Deni's "Tsunami" Quilt (questions and updated Tsunami quilt layout included)

The solid black I like the best is the Kona cotton solid. It's a true black and has a very nice feel. If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they carry it and it's 25% off right now, usually $5.99 a yard. Hancock Fabrics also carries it.

Moda Marbles come in 210 colors, so I'm sure there is a red that you will find as perfect. I have a color card and can see at least four that I would call blood red...try cardinal 9881-12, brick red 9881-13, redwood 9880-57, or burgundy 9865 to start. They are all on the blue side of red. Both Hancock's of Paducah http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/Item...Marbles--m-189
and Craft Connection http://www.craftconn.com/Main.asp?Ta...CategoryId=110
have large selections of moda marbles and I have ordered from both with great satisfaction.
Craft Connection lists theirs in order by stock number which is very helpful, but Hancock's has slightly better prices on some specific mables. Craft Connection puts them all on sale sometimes in case you get addicted like I am. :D
On your border yardage, try the calculator using just the sizes of the rectangles you plan to cut, not the border function. Then add up those yardages for the total border.

OK... based on your earlier comments about the borders (12" on sides and 6" on top and bottom), with 10" blocks, EQ says your yardage requirements (not counting the backing, of course) are 9.5 yards of black, and 7 5/8 yard of red. This is assuming that your long border strips are NOT pieced.
Here is the EQ pic....

You mentioned that you could not see in your mind borders or bindings in red. Here are a few I did up for you to see. I am not sure why the pictures have all of the white lines in them :(

And here is the fabric requirements for the quilt, one is for a 2 1/2" strip for a black binding and the other is for a red binding. The quilt is 7 blocks X 9 blocks, has a 6 inch border on the top and bottom and has a 12 inch border on both sides.

I'm assuming this isn't including the backing.
...why are there 754 pieces (466 black, 288 red) to this? I've done the math for this a million times and I keep on getting 710 pieces (422 black, 288 red) so I'm just wondering where the extra 44 black pieces are coming from.
