ok i bought my daughter a new sewing machine for christmas a jomane ? i think thats how you spell it well she called me and said her needle keeps breaking could it be in wrong? is there a web site that helps with info for threading ect?

Have your daughter check the owners manual for proper seat of the needle. The flat part of the needle goes towards the rear. I recommend all new machine owners, read their manuals before sewing.

Did it come with an instruction manual? That's the first place I'd look.

You must have bought her a Janome. Have her take out the manual and follow the instructions to completely rethread the machine. This is usually the 1st step everyone does to fix this type of problem.

Aside from making sure she is seating the needle properly, she needs to make sure that the foot she is using accommodates the needle for the stitch she has selected. Before sewing, she should hand crank the needle down and make sure it passes through the opening in the foot. She could be trying to do a zigzag stitch with a zipper foot, for example.

Needle not in properly, the wrong foot for the stitches she is trying... it is hard to say without more info.

If you deflect the needle at the right point in its descent into the needle plate, it will hit the side of the needle plate or the foot and boing! you've got a broken needle.

You can cause needle deflection by pushing or pulling the fabric and not letting the feed dogs do the work of moving the fabric.
