Jean1941, I've tried staying at home, but then I open up my email, see these great deals on ConnectingThreads and now find myself waiting for a package of new fat quarters and some yardage to arrive any day now!! lol!

Lordy,Lordy, I`m an older person, haven`t quilted all that long, and promised myself to go slow on buying material. Yet again I fell into a sale I could not refuse. I promise I was not looking for material, and there it was, right next to some thing I needed. Close out sale, a material $1.00 a yard.
I feel so guilty.

For me, the only thing that helps is not to go to the store in the first place. If I see it and touch it, it's all over! I am the worst for giving advice on this topic however, my sewing room is FULL of fabric! Good luck.

Here's what at least slowed me down: I got all my fabric out of the containers they were in, and started piling them up on shelves. When I finished filling one set of shelves, I emptied a bookshelf, and kept going. I still have several plastic containers full of fabric, but when I go into my sewing area, and see all that fabric on the shelf & bookshelf, it really does help me see the big picture. I DON'T need anymore fabric!!! (Now, having said that, I just got confirmation that my latest order just shipped from Over the Rainbow Quilt Shop!! - over $70!) But I really don't buy nearly as much as I used to, now that I can actually SEE how much I already have.

I have the tendency to do that with fabric, but then I remember that every year the fabric houses will produce the same kind of thing... florals, Civil War and other repros, Victorians, 30's styles, cutsey baby stuff, novelties, modern geometrics, batiks and hand dyes, etc etc.
Things that may change are the colorways because they want to give us something new in color. So my plan is, unless I think the fabric design is totally brilliant and a total joy to look at forever, or that the color is absolutely perfect and I may not be able to match it up next year, I do not buy it ...unless I have a project for it.
I bet even the stuff I bought this year thinking it is fantastic won't look so great in five years. LOL
