Yes Linda, How did you do that. Those red squares. thank all of you so much. I could see this better on my pictures than just looking at the fabric. the repeat is 29 inches. Will this work for Hexigons? most that cutebuns was talking about was 24 inches. Suzanne

The repeat is only important for stacking the fabrics. After that, you can cut them any way you want as long as you keep them stacked. Have fun!!

Definitely it will work! The repeat is just so you know where to cut so you can stack the six identical strips - once you get that done, you cut them into smaller strips - depending how big you want your hexagons.

So you'll have six swaths of fabric, you'll line them up so they're exactly alike, and you'll THEN cut that into 4" or 5" or whatever, strips. With a 29" repeat, you'll have lots of rooms for lots of strips!

To determine how much fabric you need with that 29" repeat - 29" x 36 inches (1 yd) = 174 inches or 4.83 yards that you need to get the six repeats. Oh my - or is that 203" to get the full 29" and to the beginning of the 7th, I think so. That's 5.6 yards and a smidge.

When I find a fabric I think I'd like to use for OWB, I actually do the measuring using the repeat - find where the repeat is and get at least six. Does that make sense?

PS: I get the red squares from a program I use called "FastStone" - it does screen captures and then you can use drawing tools with it.

It does not appear that you have two sets of repeats going across the width, this is not all that unusual... you will need more yardage with a print like this, to get 6 repeats :wink: :D:D:D

I only have 4 yds so I cannot get 6 repeatsout of this as I figure. The repeat is 29 inches. i figure i will need 5 to 5 and 1/2 yds. Is this correct. I am so confused about this cause I have never done this. I need to read that cutebuns tut again.

Sounds like it. That's a pretty big repeat.

I once had to go get more fabric and it was a problem. You need to figure out exactly where you are going to start and stop your repeat and then exactly how many more repeats you need, NOT yardage, because you have to find the start of your repeat on the bolt and measure out how much you need to get the rest of your repeats. Does that make sense?

You don't want to know how much extra I ended up having to buy because of this. lol

Me neither! I was like, ok, I have 4 yards and I need 6 so I will buy 2 more. Ack! Then I had to buy 3 MORE! LOL Thank goodness it was on sale.
