Okay this is a bit tricky. My DD has a quilt that great grandma made and the binding is coming off. Should I try and fix the binding myself. or send it out to get fixed? The fabric is not ripped or torn, just the thread that sewed it on broke. I hate to know that she has broken her lovely quilt but it happens. I love the quilt because it is made by family and I picked out two of the fabrics myself. If I do it myself I will have to work on it when she stays at grandmas house this weekend. What do you guys think?

If you feel comfortable enough , do it yourself
It will save time and then you will have a part of making the quilt

I just hope that pat never knows that I had to fix one of her beautiful quilts. But then again it was for a kid and i am surprised that it didn't have a problem earlier mostly because we have had to wash it so much and she keeps pulling on it.
How should I fix. Should i remove all the stitching or just "patch" where the thread has broken?

It sounds like a fairly easy fix. I'd just repair the 'broken' area - no need to remove the entire binding if just one area is affected. Does she not know the quilt has seen some trauma? She may not mind that mom has had a 'hand' in her beloved quilt.

Yes just fix the one area dont make it harder than need be.
A used quilt will have need of repairs from time to time!
my adult son still brings home his quilt for a fix!

    Sounds like a do=able fix.

I wouldn't remove anything...but I would make sure I sewed *a number of inches* on either side of the broken stitches.

Make sure to tuck any loose threads inside before you stitch over them.

    Good luck!

I would unstitch just a few stitches on either side of where the thread broke, just enough to knot the thread on each side. Then with thread matching the broken thread restitch the area needed to be mended. No need to send it out.

I would do it myself. Hand stitching is slow, but easy to do.

Hey, the binding ripped because the quilt was being loved up so much by its young owner! I call that a compliment for any quilter! Go ahead and fix it, and don't think twice!

I would sew it myself. I hope lots of my quilts are used so much they need to be repaired.
