I also hope someone will post pictures of oval tablerunners. I would like something that isn't either round or a rectangle. I haven't found any yet, but hope someone has ideas that I can make for my oval table.

I saw a nice table runner in connectingthreads.com catalog. not oval though. but it made me think Oval when i first saw it. it could be made oval easily. very pretty. the name is Easy Elegance. just go to their site and type that in search.

Why not adapt the pattern robbing peter pay paul to get an oval? You could do a few blocks. There is the dresdan plate as well that makes a nice oval runner. Or you could take a d9p block make up your runner, fold over (before quilting) draw your oval shape with a platter and get your oval that way. Just some ideas I would do, mother neccessity.

The cathedral window or double wedding ring pattern would work great as an oval tablerunner.

Until you find something better, I think it would be very simple to draft your own oval pattern--a rectangle with rounded ends, and then consider strip quilting it for a scrappy look. You could layer backing and batting, then start with your first strip, right side up,in the center. Doing one side at time (starting from center), sew strips right side together, pressing each addition over after sewing. You could always applique on top, flowers, butterflies, whatever, and then bind.

I just watched this little youtube video and I think it might be a great idea to try & draft your own. Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CWVFd1jRgw and once you have your oval drawn, decide what pattern you would like inside it.
