I was a quilt shop in Kiowa, KS this weekend and was surprised at how many NEW panels she carried! I made comment on them as they were really NICE panels. THe shop owner said she sells TONS of them. I am not a panel person, but did find one that I am going to cut up for an apron for my little sister...

I've seen some beautiful quilts made using a panel as the center which is then framed with coordinated hand-pieced (smaller) blocks and borders. I wish I had pictures to send but hope you find some on the web.
Seems to me like a good way to make a quick-but-still-unique quilt.

This top started out as a panel. I gave it to my daughter last Christmas and guess I don't have a pic of it finished.

I've also done panels that I just added borders to. That's really the idea here though one of the borders is made up of squares.

Much like JanTx, I like to use them as a center for a quilt, with blocks or stripes around it. I have a seaside panel that I can't decide if I want to use it as a regular wall hanging, or use a jelly roll (similar to a strip quilt) on the top, bottom and smaller strips on the side and then quilt it.
JanTx, yours is lovely! I l really like the fabrics in the squares, the way they coordinate with the panel!

Here is the panel quilt I did for my son's bed this year. It will fit on his queen bed. Mine is pretty simple. I just used scrap Christmas fabric for the borders. I think I turned our great and my son is going to love it. I have a Santa panel on my frame now that I will be starting on today :D
