I just bought a ream of 500 sheets of newsprint from Walmart.com for less than $5, shipped free to store. It's working great in my current project. This is the first time I've used anything but printer paper, and it is so worth it.

Blick's ream of newspaper print ordered online from Dick Blick is very reasonable. Can see through, easy to tear, and much more affordable at $3.55/ream of 500 sheets. Ready to run through printer without any trimming and right now there is a flat rate for shipping. Also price breaks for buying 6 or more. This is my favorite.

I use the cheapest copy paper I can find and haven't ever had a problem, but for a suggestion, fold the paper along the fold line, that will tell you where to place the fabric, also, if you hold the fabric and the paper up to the light, you will be able to see the line better.

Cari, if you print on the tissue paper with the printer...won't the ink discolor the quilt when you leave it in then wash it?

I use newsprint. I hold it up to the light so I can see where the fabric is when I'm doing smaller pieces and don't have them cut to line up with the previous piece.
I have also done it by folding on the line and lining it up on the next piece that way.
I trim the seam with scissors after sewing each one. I also grade the seam on the really small stuff.
When I'm doing larger items, then I use the Add a quarter ruler.
