How would you number the pieces and how can I get rid of the y seam? I have never done one. And if there is a very very good video of how to do it please post that too. I would rather not have to do a y seam but think that it is inevitable.
I plan on cutting the square in have for 2 triangles to pp.( this is my own doodle also) its size is about 11" square.

It's a mirror image of the other side.

You can't do that pattern on one continuous foundation it has to be at least two foundations..

#9 is a whole piece (unless you want to split it for aesthetic reasons).

You can attach #9 it to one side if you want as part of the foundation ....or use it as the center and attach the pieced foundations (1-8 and 10-17) to both sides of #9.

Here are the 3 foundation options for that block:

I am cutting the square in half on the 9 for simplicity. It's the 1-8 that I am having a problem with. Mostly the 123 and 567 spots either way I have a y seam and I am trying not to. Never done one pp before. Or at all period.

this is my goal the paper part

Your numbering is fine...it's just the way you've finished the lines towards the edges.

There won't be a "y" seam. Thats the beauty of paper piecing!

I tought myself to paper piece too. You need to get on the internet and watch some videos to see how it is done!

OOPs! Sorry! I just re-read and realized you have done PP before!

    Yeah, I don't get/see where a y-seam is appearing.

How about this - start with #4...and then work each side separately...does that work for you?

If you're new to pp, then make a much smaller version to try it out, so you can see how you'll be trimming back each line to prepare for the next piece.

But your numbering is fine...it's exactly how I would do it.

The y seams are on 2 and 6 where they would connect to the 4 with the 5&3. See the difficulty.

You will definitely need to attach #5 to #6, before attaching those 2 pieces to #4. How to do that in paper piecing, I couldn't say. But there will definitely be a Y-seam, if you don't.

Ok, I see the problem 0 You just need to break down the foundations.
