Default Pfaff Grand Quilter Hobby 1200 with Inspira quilting frame

I have a chance to buy one of these for under $1000. I'm told it works great, but I'm not in a position to test drive it before I buy it. It comes with the stitch regulator and a few extras. Ad says its 8 yrs old. Thoughts/opinions? Is this a good price? Is it worth it?

Isn't this the one that has a domestic size harp -- about 9"? Most people who start out with that size for frame quilting quickly realize its limitations and want to upgrade. Towards the end of a queen size quilt, for example, you have only about 3" of depth to work with (because the roll under the arm becomes so big it limits your sewing area). However, if your intent is to use this setup for quilting meanders and loops, it could be worthwhile for you. Just don't expect to be able to do pantographs that are 8" deep on large quilts; might be able to do that size on toddler size quilts or throws, though.

I checked completed ebay sales, and the machine is going for about 400 - 450 so with the frame & stitch regulator sounds like the price is in the ball park. If you do a search on this board, this machine has been discussed before.

My friend paid $1200 for a set up like that. She loves is even tho it doe not have a big neck. No more basting is a big plus.

I wouldn't buy a used machine without testing it first, unless it was over ebay or paypal where you could return it and get your money back.

That is a great machine and a good entry into frame quilting. I quilted 40+ quilts on mine and after my initial learning curve I had zero trouble out of the machine. I think the price is reasonable also. Enjoy!

I've got nearly the same set up and yes it can be frustrating because the harp isn't that big but u can still do some lovely quilting. Also it's a cheap way to find out if frame quilting is for u, not everyone likes it.
