Hello all! Is it advisable to piece strips together by hand and then rotary cut across the seams? I know this is a great time-saving technique for machine piecing but it seems like hand-pieced seams might not be strong enough to withstand the rotary cutter. What are your thoughts? I'd like to do a "wonky log cabin" but I'm afraid to cut across my hand-pieced seams in order to "wonk" them.

I would not hand piece a strip. I would say if you do handstitch you wound need to resew the ends that were cut.

Strip-piecing is strictly a machine piecing technique. It would not work for hand piecing.

You would need your stitches to be very tight and close together or they would probably come undone.
Try it on some scraps and see what happens :D:D:D

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to do a wonky log cabin when piecing by hand?

I would either make up templates for the size strips you want that start at one end with 1/2" and end at the other with 1" or whatever the dimensions you need are and use the template to cut them individually. I use regular printer paper to make templates. Or I would have the strips cut, lets say 2 1/2" wide and however long and just sew them together starting with 1/4" seam on one end and ending up with a larger seam on the other end so you get that wonky look. Don't know if I have made myself clear. I do regular log cabin by hand, have never done the wonky, to fussy by hand for me.
