Playing well together - cutting scraps
Within the last month someone posted a thread about cutting scraps into specific usable piece sizes such as 2.5" squares, 5 inch squares, etc. I think that the title was something about playing well together. The main idea was cutting pieces so that they would work well together to form blocks. I have searched under many different things in the advanced search but haven't been able to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were some ladies out in Yuma with a system they copyrighted as "A Quilter's Lumberyard" that focused on finished 2" segments. So, the cut segments with seam allowance added were similar to this.
2 1/2" squares
2 1/2" by 4 1/2" rectangles
4 1/2" square
2 1/2" by 6 1/2" rectangles

edited to add: I have never participated in any of this scrap system, so I am not sure how big they went to with the length's or squares. I think any multiple of 2" finished block would be appropriate.

Then you would use the next size up. It is not a "do or die system", just something to get you started organizing your scraps. I cut "most" of mine at 2.5" as that size works great with 1" hexies and in the future I am making a rainbow postage stamp quilt, yea, I know postage stamp is finished 1" squares but I can live with that.
