Question presser foot TOO much pressing?? help

Thanks so much for helping me with my last question. I figured out I had cracked my FMQ foot....so I went into town today and bought another one...this time I got one that had more metal and less plastic - hoping to not crack it again...

    PROBLEM...
Now the presser foot presses too much on my fabric and I can't move it...I can barely get my sandwich under the foot when holding it UP.

Is there an adjustment that will make it press less?
    Thanks

What kind of machine do you have and how old is it? Manuel or electronic?

First, check your manuel to see if your problem is addressed. Check the diagram in the front explaining where everything is located on your machine. I just looked at a picture of your machine (looks nice) and there is a small knob on the left back top that appears to be the knob you are looking for to change the pressure foot tension. Make a sandwich just like the quilt you want to quilt and adjust the knob (check manuel for how to adjust...some turn and some pump up and down). Sew a little with each adjustment and check to see that the stitches aren't looping on back or front, etc. I hope this is helpful.

If you change it too much, the feet on the bottom won't move the fabric through.

BTW, is the "presser foot" you are talking about the new free motion foot? If so, you may have gotten the wrong one for your machine. If all your other feet don't have this problem, take it back and have them check on what your machine uses.

There are typically two dials or knobs that have numbers . One is to adjust the thread tension , the other is to adjust the pressure on the foot . Most often located on the side of the machine either on the front left side , or on the left side just around the corner from the face of the machine.

My older Pfaff (mid 1980s) has a way of positioning the presser foot so it is sort of at 'half-mast' - check your instruction manual to see if your machine has that option, too.

okay - took the side off the machine and I don't see any knob or lever that will adjust. The manual doesn't show anything either...I guess I have the wrong thing... ugh another hour drive to switch it out....bummer.

All my machines have a knob straight up from the presser foot, on top of machine. When there is too much pressure on the foot I must turn it to take off some pressure. When I FMQ I must take all pressure off the foot, I also have to lower the feeddogs. So I loosen it as much as I can. I have a little window - dead straight in front of me and I can watch it go up to top of the machine as I turn it. When I am done I turn knob opposite way to tighten it so feeddogs will pull the fabric throught.

This has happened to me(getting the wrong foot) some of the genaric feet do not fit the machines, you may have to find one for your spacific machine. heck the internet== machiine name== model number, check amazon.
