Pressing ?
I like to heavily starch my fabrics prior to cutting. How do you press instead of iron the fabric? You have to move the iron around to get rid of the hole marks that the iron makes and I have difficulty picking up the iron so often due to health problems. Any advise would be very much appreciated.

the ironing vs. pressing issue is about Blocks/cut pieces- vs large pieces of whole fabric. you want to (press) constructed blocks/small pieces - especially ones with any bias edges- to keep from distorting/stretching out of shape.
if you are ironing a whole piece of un-cut fabric you iron it- like ironing a shirt-or what ever.

I iron large unsewn pieces too - I press gently the sewn sections of blocks and blocks and quilt tops.
