I came home Saturday and my husband was cleaning up the garage. The washing machine had literally exploded: the entire top blew off - held on only by the steel mesh water lines, and the back of the tub blew out. The machine moved away from the garage wall and the water lines keep it from moving out farther. It was a good thing I was out in my car, since it is parked in front of the washer. There were pieces all over the garage. Luckily, it is all covered by warranty and the mfr is going to refund our money - easier for them then replacing it. In fact, we went back to the store and the machine is on sale for $200 less than what we originally paid for it.

Showed the sales people where we originally bought it and they were amazed. Our salesman wanted copies of the photos to put on Facebook. Plus my husband had to sent photos to the mfr as well as proof.

I've never heard of this before. I'm shocked that it happened. Luckily nobody was standing by it when it happened.

IrelandDragonQuilting 06-27-2011 07:46 PM

What caused it to do this? Do you know, that is very interesting. I have heard of dryers exploding but not a washer.

nyelphaba 06-27-2011 07:46 PM

This is a first. How outrageous!

bjeriann 06-27-2011 07:47 PM

Never see anything like that. Now mine likes to pee in the floor alot. Repairman is to be here Thursday.

erstan947 06-27-2011 07:48 PM

Wow! Never heard of that happening before. Happy know one was hurt and you can get a replacement.

miss_ticky2 06-27-2011 07:48 PM

Good heavens! Never heard of that happening before

virtualbernie 06-27-2011 07:50 PM

If you find out exactly what made it explode, please let us know. I'd like to know if it could happen to me and how to avoid this! Scary!

Charlee 06-27-2011 07:52 PM

I dunno...but I think I'd be looking at a different model by a different maker!

That's scary.

normasews 06-27-2011 07:53 PM

This is the first for me. I've never heard of this happening. Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt.

chatonne40 06-27-2011 07:53 PM

Wow lucky there was nobody hurt either. Have they found what was the cause of this explosion?

alikat110 06-27-2011 07:54 PM

Omg. Glad no one was hurt. Would love to see this on myth busters!!!! Lol

Carron 06-27-2011 07:56 PM

Do you have any idea why this happened?

Jim's Gem 06-27-2011 07:57 PM

Good heavens!!! I have never heard of that!! I hope that you are not going to buy the exact same washer!!!!

suzee 06-27-2011 08:02 PM

Yikes! Another good reason to stay away from the washing machine! LOL So thankful that nobody was hurt. What brand was it?

Maia B 06-27-2011 08:08 PM

Praise God no one was hurt and your home didn't catch fire! What brand and model is it? Save others from the danger and hassle.

Ramona Byrd 06-27-2011 08:14 PM

Please share with us the make and model of this machine. I was just looking through some old papers and discovered that I'd bought mine in 2008, and when the men put it in they discovered that the LAST installation had been done wrong and water had been seeping inside my wall for years!! I had noticed leakage on the cement walk way that came up to the house, but never could figure out where it came from. Plus, I usually wash at night so never noticed it most of the time.

Where did you get this machine and brand?

M.I.Late 06-27-2011 08:17 PM

Sounds like something consumer affairs should see also. Boy, that's scarey. I'm glad your car wasn't out there too. WOW!

You weren't washing kex rags with gasoline on them were you? I've heard that will do it... anything with gas on it can make that happen.

I read somewhere that the spier on the drum could have failed and caused this. (What ever that is). I would certainly want a thorough explanation from the manufacturer....

blueangel 06-27-2011 08:17 PM

OMG I have never hear of that happening.

SnowQuilt 06-27-2011 08:22 PM

I never heard of this before. Im so sorry this happened to you. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 06-27-2011 08:22 PM

Who is the manufacturer????? don't think I would want to ever buy one of those. I have never heard of that happening. heard of dryers starting on fire but now an exploding washing machine! Glad no one was hurt and that it didn't damage your car.

Mariposa 06-27-2011 08:27 PM

Yikes! Glad no one was hurt! I think I'd be getting a different brand of washer~~
Do you ever wash your dryer lint trap thing? Need to wash it in dish soap to get rid of the film on it. Do it every few months. Will keep your dryer from burning up!

ontheriver 06-27-2011 08:35 PM

OMG, it's unbelievable. Never heard of this happening before.

You are right about this, I know of this very kind of thing
happening when you wash rags thats had gas and oil on them, they will cause a explosion I know for a fact for this happened to my Mother while she had a load of my dads shop rags in the washer, it is the only thing I have ever seen that does that, but it sure is dangerous.

quilt-fanatic 06-27-2011 09:29 PM

Yikes. I think I have the very same washer and dryer judging from the pictures. Just got mine about 2 months ago and really love them. Mine are Whirlpool Cabrio.

quiltingcandy 06-27-2011 09:55 PM

Very scary!

butterflywing 06-27-2011 10:00 PM

were you doing a wash at the time? if you were, it was a punishment.

leiladylei54 06-27-2011 10:38 PM

Brand name and model number would be good to help us be alert to this problem. Thank you!!!

earthwalker 06-27-2011 10:51 PM

I've never seen anything like this before. I would be very concerned...I know the electrics are usually housed in the top panel, which seems to be the bit that flew off. I would maybe get the power point tested, just in case. If it were me, I'd be wanting some answers from the manufacturer and probably would not buy the same brand to replace it. If a child had been nearby, it could have easily had a serious/fatal result.

Let us know what they come up with....could save some dramas for others.

OneMoreQuilt 06-27-2011 10:56 PM

Wow...I'm so glad no one was hurt.

emerald46 06-28-2011 02:54 AM

christina d 06-28-2011 03:18 AM

never heard of this I bet that was a surprise WOW

donnajean 06-28-2011 03:18 AM

What brand & model was the washer? Is it one of the newer water saver models? When I was researching washers last winter, I read somewhere about a washer putting a whole in a wall.

quilt3311 06-28-2011 03:37 AM

If you find out what caused it, please let us know. thanks.

Mickie612 06-28-2011 03:42 AM

I always knew washing machines were dangerous. //////////// Beware of Housework,,,,,,,,

vivoaks 06-28-2011 04:43 AM

Wow! I sure wouldn't go back and purchase the same exact machine again!!! In fact, I'd probably buy a completely different brand! Wow again!!!

Homemother 06-28-2011 04:44 AM

Always knew housework was hazardous.....should reconsider the ramifications of any serious housework.
