I came home Saturday and my husband was cleaning up the garage. The washing machine had literally exploded: the entire top blew off - held on only by the steel mesh water lines, and the back of the tub blew out. The machine moved away from the garage wall and the water lines keep it from moving out farther. It was a good thing I was out in my car, since it is parked in front of the washer. There were pieces all over the garage. Luckily, it is all covered by warranty and the mfr is going to refund our money - easier for them then replacing it. In fact, we went back to the store and the machine is on sale for $200 less than what we originally paid for it.

Showed the sales people where we originally bought it and they were amazed. Our salesman wanted copies of the photos to put on Facebook. Plus my husband had to sent photos to the mfr as well as proof.

I've never heard of this before. I'm shocked that it happened. Luckily nobody was standing by it when it happened.

What caused it to do this? Do you know, that is very interesting. I have heard of dryers exploding but not a washer.

If you find out exactly what made it explode, please let us know. I'd like to know if it could happen to me and how to avoid this! Scary!

Praise God no one was hurt and your home didn't catch fire! What brand and model is it? Save others from the danger and hassle.

Please share with us the make and model of this machine. I was just looking through some old papers and discovered that I'd bought mine in 2008, and when the men put it in they discovered that the LAST installation had been done wrong and water had been seeping inside my wall for years!! I had noticed leakage on the cement walk way that came up to the house, but never could figure out where it came from. Plus, I usually wash at night so never noticed it most of the time.

Where did you get this machine and brand?

Sounds like something consumer affairs should see also. Boy, that's scarey. I'm glad your car wasn't out there too. WOW!

You weren't washing kex rags with gasoline on them were you? I've heard that will do it... anything with gas on it can make that happen.

I read somewhere that the spier on the drum could have failed and caused this. (What ever that is). I would certainly want a thorough explanation from the manufacturer....

Yikes! Glad no one was hurt! I think I'd be getting a different brand of washer~~
Do you ever wash your dryer lint trap thing? Need to wash it in dish soap to get rid of the film on it. Do it every few months. Will keep your dryer from burning up!

You are right about this, I know of this very kind of thing
happening when you wash rags thats had gas and oil on them, they will cause a explosion I know for a fact for this happened to my Mother while she had a load of my dads shop rags in the washer, it is the only thing I have ever seen that does that, but it sure is dangerous.

Yikes. I think I have the very same washer and dryer judging from the pictures. Just got mine about 2 months ago and really love them. Mine are Whirlpool Cabrio.
