Binding Fabric--Should I use the dark or the medium ?? Would like opinions
2 Attachment(s)
I think it will look nice using the dark blue (from the sashing) fabric for the binding but I know a lot of quilters prefer to use the fabric that is used in the outer border. I have 3 choices here--the dark blue from sashing, the medium blue small print from the border or the medium blue large floral print from the backing. I like all three but think the dark would make a nice "framing" to it.
This is only a portion of the quilt--it measures around 68x78. Thanks. |
I like the dark blue best.
The large print second best. |
The dark blue looks perfect to me. It frames your top nicely and will match with the backing fabric.
I like the border floral myself. I usually go for the dark, but something tells me the floral!
Dark blue.
Love the dark blue it really frames your border. I would go with it!
I like the dark blue. Pulls everything together and makes a frame.
I agree with SilverNeedle, the dark blue helps pull it all together
The dark blue binding would create a lovely frame effect once it goes on.
I would go out and buy some dark pink but then I live where it is summer currently.
I like the dark blue with it.. .it's a very pretty quilt!
I like the dark blue!

My preference is for the dark blue (sashing) fabric.
I like the dark blue, personally.
My thoughts on binding are if you do it well you can use any color you like. If your bindings are wavy, match the border and no one will notice. I'm finally getting to the "use anything" stage and I like the variety it allows. |
I would use the dark blue.
I would choose the yellow fabric that is in the quilt for a binding. The blue is nice but really blends in too much for me. Just my opinion. The quilt is very nice.
The dark blue finishes the quilt best IMHO.
I prefer the dark blue. It is a very pretty quilt too.
i'd use the dark
I like the dark blue.

Add another for the dark blue!

Dark blue gets my vote.
My motto is: when in doubt go dark...so my vote would be for the darker blue...or...you could even go with the darker pink if you still have some of that...it would be dark, but a contrast, instead of matching the blue lattice fabric....give the quilt some "zip" at the edge....you have the final decision though, any of the choices would work.
I also like the dark blue.

I like the dark blue!

I like the dark blue (sashing fabric) - it just frames it - its a beautiful quilt.
Do you have any light blue that matches the border. I think that would end the quilt but not take a way from the main quilt. If not then I think bind in same fabric as border.
Love your quilt and all the great colors. I like the backing fabric for the binding as my first choice and the sashing color material as my second.
Every quilt is different and IMHO I think the backing material is so cool it just has to have more of it. It also will make the edge disappear so you look at the quilt center and not the edge of the quilt. Love this happy quilt. Let us know your choice! |
Dark blue is really nice.
I always try a color that pops for the binding so vote for dark blue
dark blue.

How good are you at even bindings and neat corners? If you're a stickler for really tidy, precise binding work, then I think the dark fabric would be nice. If you're still learning, or you don't really want to invest the time in making the corners perfect, then I think that you're better off with a match to the border. My observation is that bindings are among the top problem areas where quilts fall into the "loving hands at home" category of crafting. I've learned not to make a showpiece of them unless I really intend to do it right.

Personally I'd use that red or the pink print in the lower right.
Dark absolutely.
just to add my HO to the mix: whatever you do will be wonderful. Personally, I like the binding to match the border so that the center of the quilt is the focus. Also, the binding ends up hanging off the bed anyway, so it only frames the quilt when it's laid out flat or hanging. Gorgeous quilt and love your colors! Do share what you end up doing.

I like the dark blue as the sashing and floral for the back
I like the dark blue, it brings it all together.

I like the dark blue. It frames your blocks and should frame the entire quilt. The florals would be lost in a binding.
Definitely the dark blue!
